Best Car to Make Uber in 2026: Top 5 Most Affordable Cars Per Kilometre

We calculated the actual cost per km of 20 popular cars in app — fuel, maintenance and depreciation — and Kwid won. See the full ranking.

Car is the largest source of variable cost

The choice of car can represent hundreds of reais per month of difference in the driver's profit — not only by the purchase price, but by the cost per km traveled, which adds fuel, maintenance and depreciation with each race.

The 5 most economical cars per km driven

We calculated the actual cost per km of 20 popular models in applications — fuel (ethanol or gasoline, whichever is cheaper) plus estimated maintenance and depreciation. These are the 5 with the lowest total cost:

#ModelCategoryTotal cost/km

|---|--------|-----------|------------------|

1[Renault Kwid](/cost-per-km/kwid)Popular HatchR$ 0,644
2[Fiat Mobi](/cost-per-km/mobi)Popular HatchR$ 0,658
3[Fiat Uno](/cost-per-km/uno)Popular hatchR$ 0,717
4[Chevrolet Onix](/cost-per-km/onix)Popular HatchR$ 0,732
5[Hyundai HB20](/cost-per-km/hb20)Popular HatchR$ 0,763

The top five places are occupied by popular and lightweight hatches — the smaller and lighter the car, the lower the fuel consumption tends to be, which is the largest component of the cost per km.

Why Kwid and Mobi lead the ranking

Renault Kwid and Fiat Mobi are the lightest and most compact cars on the list, which translates into lower fuel consumption (close to 9.6-9.8 km/l in ethanol) and cheaper parts because they are entry-level cars. The trade-off is a smaller trunk and less internal space — important to consider if you carry passenger luggage frequently.

What changes in a compact sedan

Sedans such as HB20S, Sandero/Logan and Cronos generally cost between R$ 0,77 and R$ 0,81 per km — slightly more than popular hatches, but with a larger trunk, which can mean more accepted rides (airport, moves, large purchases) and more satisfied passengers.

What about medium sedans, like Corolla and Civic?

Corolla and Civic are at the top of the cost per km (R$ 0,82 and R$ 0,88, respectively) among the 20 models evaluated — larger engines and more expensive parts weigh in the calculation. On the other hand, they tend to have higher retail value retention and are often preferred by passengers on higher category rides (Uber Comfort, for example), which can offset some of the extra cost with higher fares.

Monthly simulation: Kwid vs Civic, same routine

Running 8h/day, 22 days/month, average 15 km/h (2,640 km/month), the difference in cost per km translates as follows:

ModelCost/kmMonthly cost (2,640 km)

|--------|----------|--------------------------|

Renault KwidR$ 0,644R$ 1.700,16
Honda CivicR$ 0,877R$ 2.315,28
DifferenceR$ 615,12/month

Running exactly the same amount of km, the choice of car alone already represents more than R$ 600 difference per month in the driver's pocket.

The car also defines which categories you can access

Choosing the model not only affects the cost per km — it also determines which categories of the app you can run on:

  • Input category (UberX, 99, standard InDriver): accepts virtually all models on this list, including the most economical hatches like Kwid and Mobi.
  • Intermediate categories (Comfort, for example): usually require larger sedans or hatches, usually with air conditioning and most recent year of manufacture — which pushes the choice for models such as HB20S, Sandero, Cronos or Versa.
  • Premium categories: typically require midsize sedans like Corolla and Civic, which have the highest cost per km on this list but access higher fares per ride.
  • That is: a car with a higher cost per km can still compensate financially if it unlocks access to higher fare categories — it is worth simulating both scenarios before deciding.

    Buy cash, financed or used?

  • Cash: eliminates the cost of the installment, but requires available initial capital — usually the option with the best net result in the long run.
  • Funded: The monthly installment needs to be added to the cost per km before deciding whether it is worth it. In many cases, the value of the installment consumes much (or all) of the extra profit that a “better” car would bring.
  • Used, within a few miles: is often the most common middle ground among app drivers — entry price less than zero miles, with much of the service life still available.
  • Electric car enters the bill?

Yes, and it's worth mentioning separately: electric cars like the BYD Dolphin Mini have much lower energy cost than any combustion car on this list — but the higher entry price and reliance on regular charging changes the financial equation. Recapping the ranking of the 5 most economical

  • Renault Kwid — R$ 0,644/km
  • Fiat Mobi — R$ 0,658/km
  • Fiat Uno — R$ 0,717/km
  • Chevrolet Onix — R$ 0,732/km
  • Hyundai HB20 — R$ 0,763/km
  • All popular and lightweight hatches — the pattern that repeats itself at the top of the ranking among the 20 models evaluated. Compact and medium sedans join the list soon after, with cost per km between R$ 0,77 and R$ 0,88, offsetting the extra value with more space and, in some cases, access to higher fare categories in the app.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most economical car to drive Uber in 2026?

Among the models evaluated on this page, Renault Kwid had the lowest total cost per km (R$ 0,644), followed by Fiat Mobi and Fiat Uno — all popular and lightweight hatches.

Is it worth switching cars just to save per mile?

It depends on how much you run per month and the value of the current car. If the difference in cost per km is large and you drive many kilometers, the savings can make up for the trade-in in a few years — but the calculation needs to also consider the resale value of the current car and the investment in the trade-in.

Sedan costs much more than hatch to run app?

Not much — the difference between cheaper hatches and compact sedans is usually between R$ 0,05 and R$ 0,15 per km. The gain in passenger space and comfort can offset this extra cost depending on your market.

How do I know the exact cost per km of my car?

Check out the dedicated [cost-per-km-per-model](/cost-per-km) page or use the main calculator, entering your car's actual fuel consumption and price in your city.

Automatic car uses more fuel than manual?

In general yes, a little — but the difference tends to be less than the difference between different models on this list. It is worth checking the specific consumption of the automatic version of the model you are considering.
