Uber Driver Auto Insurance: How much does it cost and which one to hire?

Not all auto insurance covers commercial use like Uber. See which policies work, how much they cost, and how to include them in your profit calculation.

The Problem Most Drivers Ignore

Most auto insurance does not cover accidents during app races . If you use conventional insurance and have an accident while taking a run, the insurer may refuse payment.

This is because standard insurance does not cover "commercial use" of the vehicle.

Which insurances work for app drivers?

1. Application-specific insurance

Some insurers offer policies for drivers of Uber, 99 and similar:

  • Porto Seguro Auto App — coverage during races
  • Allianz for app drivers — specific plans
  • HDI Auto Fleet — for app fleets
  • Average cost: R$ 200 to R$ 400/month depending on car and city.

    2. Business/fleet insurance

For those who formalized as MEI or company, business insurance covers commercial use and usually has a better price per vehicle.

    3. Rig insurance program

Uber offers insurance coverage during the ride, but it has important limitations. It does not replace your own insurance for the period between races.

How much does insurance weigh in profit?

For a driver billing net R$ 3.500 (after commission) per month:

  • Uninsured: R$ 3.500 (but huge risk)
  • With R$ 280/month insurance: R$ 3.220 of protected profit
  • The difference is R$ 280/month — less than 9% of revenue — to sleep peacefully.
